Mr Fisher was awarded two contracts of about $50,000 each, Ms Evans said.
Greens leader Adam Bandt said the government’s decision to employ Dr Fisher showed it had “no interest in curbing the climate crisis”.
“Climate denial is at the heart of the government’s modelling used to win over the Nationals on net zero. Burning more gas in a net zero world, as this modelling ‘predicts’, shows the 2050 deal is a fraud,” Mr Bandt said.
Labor climate and energy spokesman Chris Bowen said federal government climate policy had gone from “bad to worse” with the contracting of Dr Fisher, whose work was used in the “net zero climate scare campaigns of 2019″.
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan, who opposes his government’s commitment to net zero, quizzed the Department on economic modelling. Ms Evans said the department had produced detailed modelling, including a breakdown of regional impacts.
