Dozens of officers at the house spent Tuesday digging up the garden and combing through the soil in the hopes of finding a trace of physical evidence.

Technical specialists from the Australian Federal Police arrived in Kendall on Wednesday morning.

They will deploy drones over the house.

Investigators will also begin excavating the five-metre patch of bushland that this masthead on Tuesday reported detectives are honing in on following new information.

Hydrologist Professor John Olley, who is working with police on the investigation, has concluded that if William’s body was in that small patch, it could only have then moved to a nearby tributary on private land, which police will now search for bones or fragments of clothing.

A ground-penetrating radar that detects inconsistencies in the ground will be used, starting later this week.

Heavy rain and storms are predicted for the Mid North Coast later this week, which will potentially halt proceedings temporarily.

In the coming weeks, investigators will also undertake a search of the area between the house and the small patch of bush.
