The bans of both the head coach and official are effective immediately, but they have been given 14 days to appeal the sanctions.

The Capitals released a club statement and said Goriss had accepted responsibility for his actions. Assistant coach Kennedy Karema will step into the head coach role amid his five-game suspension.

“The UC Capitals take issues of sport integrity with great seriousness and acknowledge Goriss’ actions, for which he has accepted responsibility for,” the statement said.

“Goriss has demonstrated exemplary character on and off the court over many years and the club is supportive of Goriss now and into the future.”
