“We are expecting those [Omicron] numbers to actually jump quite significantly as those tests are performed,” Dr Chant said.
“We have seen a number of local hospitality venues, in particular, that have been linked to Omicron clusters.”
On Monday night, NSW Health issued a public health alert for Finnegan’s Hotel in Newcastle, labelling it a venue of concern.
Anyone who attended the Darby Street venue between 6.30pm on Friday, December 10, and 2.30am on Saturday, December 11, is considered a close contact and must get tested for COVID-19 and isolate for seven days.
All households contacts of close contacts must also get tested and isolate until everyone at their address receives a negative result.

Further restrictions are due to ease on Wednesday for all people, regardless of vaccination status, as the state reaches the next phase of the road map.
Face masks will only be required on public transport, in airports and on planes, and for unvaccinated indoor hospitality staff.
Density limits will also end, including a lifting of the 20-person maximum for gym classes, and music festivals will return, capped at 20,000 people.
According to the road map, COVID-19 check-ins will only be required in higher risk settings such as hospitals, aged and disability facilities, gyms, personal services, places of worship, pubs, smalls bars and nightclubs.
