Jetstar has cancelled all flights from Perth to other Australian capitals through March as uncertainty hangs over when Premier Mark McGowan will bring down WA’s hard border, with flight prices through other companies increasing.
In a statement, Qantas Group said it had “reviewed its domestic capacity settings” due to the government’s decision to indefinite delay the border opening.

“Though at a fraction of its pre-COVID levels, Qantas will maintain core connections between Perth and the rest of Australia, with up to 15 flights per week from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Darwin, supporting essential personnel and freight,” the statement said.
“The Group retains the flexibility to adjust flying levels depending on demand and clarity on border re-opening in the weeks and months ahead.”
Flights to other cities such as Cairns and the Gold Coast have also been cancelled.
A spokeswoman said Jetstar’s schedule was published from April onwards, pending border restrictions, and that the cancellations were processed over recent weeks, with final cancellations for March issued on Tuesday.

Perth man Lloyd, who asked his last name not be used, said he had received an email on Tuesday night informing him his flight to Sydney in early March would not go ahead.
“I called Jetstar and was told they had diverted flights to a more patronised route and all flights till April 1 had been cancelled. That is the day we fly back to Perth,” he said.
