Prince Andrew’s lawyers to interview accuser Virginia Giuffre in person

London: Prince Andrew’s accuser will be interviewed under oath about her claim that she was raped and sexually abused by the prince when she was 17.

The prince’s lawyer, Andrew Brettler, will in April question Virginia Roberts Giuffre in person either in the US or Australia, where she has a home.

The date was agreed in the last 24 hours after Andrew’s legal team expressed frustration that she had not committed to a timeframe.

Giuffre, 38, has alleged that she was sexually abused or raped by Andrew on three occasions in 2001, when she was 17 and is seeking unspecified damages. Her civil claim is due to be heard in New York later this year.

Prince Andrew will be interviewed under oath at a “neutral” location in London on March 10. David Boies, counsel for Giuffre, is expected to fly to the UK to conduct the interview, which could last two days.

The prince is being prepared for the interview by his UK-based legal team and advisers. His disastrous Newsnight performance, in November 2019, has prompted fears that he will not perform well under pressure.

Legal experts have warned that he may unwittingly walk into a trap set by Boies, who is considered an extremely skilled deposition-taker.

Boies will then interview Shukri Walker, a woman who is alleged to have seen the prince and Giuffre together at a London nightclub on the first night he is alleged to have abused her, and Robert Olney, the prince’s former equerry.
