Victoria records 9391 new COVID-19 cases, 16 deaths

Of the people in intensive care, 92.1 per cent had not received their booster shot, including 28.9 per cent who were unvaccinated, and 2.6 per cent of people who had only one COVID-19 vaccine.

Wednesday’s Chief Health Officer’s update said 47.4 per cent of people who have so far died in current outbreaks were unvaccinated, while 7.8 per cent had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 3 per cent had all three vaccine doses.

Omicron has nearly wiped out the Delta variant in Victoria, authorities said, with 97.8 per cent of 500 COVID-19 samples taken from the community in the past fortnight testing positive for the variant.

The number of COVID-19 patients in Victorian hospitals has fallen steadily since Australia Day, when there was 1089. Since the spread of the Delta variant in September, the lowest number of COVID-19 patients in hospital was on November 28, with 283.
