The modest weatherboard home remained taped off by police on Friday afternoon as forensic officers dressed in overalls and plastic shoe coverings moved in and out of the property.
Neighbour Sarah Kerr said it was a surprise.
“It’s completely surreal. I’m a mum of two [and] probably don’t want to think that [this] kind of thing is happening next door,” she said.
“It’s a bit of a shock.”
Ms Kerr said the woman who owned the house next door had two boarders, a man and a woman.
“They would have drinks on the front porch pretty often and in the evening, and they all seem pretty nice,” she said.
“Who’s thinking that that’s happening? What do you do with them? The pieces when you get them? I mean the mind boggles.”
She said an ambulance had been called to the property regularly over the past year.
Evan Townsend told Nine News the thought of the remains being discovered in the street was “quite unnerving”.

Another, who asked not to be named, said he didn’t know what to make of the news.
“I’m probably as shocked as everyone else in this neighbourhood,” he told Nine.
Another neighbour on Mary Street, who did not want to be identified, wondered whether the grisly discovery would affect local housing prices.
