Rawiller feels it is the right time to step out to 2400m after being the Australian Cup runner-up to Duais, the Tancred favourite, last start, but the wet track remains a concern for Think It Over.
“He has been relaxing really well and [trainer] Kerry [Parker] has mentioned to me that he thinks he might be a Melbourne Cup horse later in the year and I wouldn’t say no to that,” Rawiller said. “We would like a drier track, but we can’t control that.
“I think this race will give an indication if that [the Melbourne Cup] is on the cards, but with a horse with the class he has, the Cox Plate is also a consideration.
“That’s his big advantage, he is just a very good horse and has been at this level for a long time.”
Rawiller will ride Eduardo in a Warwick Farm barrier trial on Friday as a final hit-out for the TJ Smith.
“It is the same preparation as usual, but it is always good to get back on him,” he said.
Rawiller won a reprieve from his Golden Slipper suspension by majority decision.
The panel found Rawiller was careless on Sweet Ride when he crossed Rachel King on Queen Of The Ball on the first turn of the Golden Slipper, but crucially added that the consequences weren’t sufficient to sustain the six-meeting ban handed out by stewards.
Appeals chair Richard Beasley said: “We are not comfortably satisfied that Ms King’s horse [Queen Of The Ball] was checked or lost its rightful running.”
