Cr Schrinner said the bridge would be used during and after the Games, with the athletes’ village planned for nearby Northshore Hamilton, and the 12,000-seat basketball arena likely to be built in Albion.
“The Kangaroo Point green bridge, which is now part of the South East Queensland City Deal, will also play a similar role during the Games by linking a redeveloped Gabba Stadium with Brisbane’s city centre,” he said.
The Breakfast Creek bridge’s final design will include dedicated pathways for pedestrians and cyclists on the bridge deck and approach pathways, with a minimum width of six metres.
Construction of the Kangaroo Point bridge has been temporarily paused due to the state government using barges to remove Drift restaurant, which beached on Bicentennial Bikeway during the recent floods.
