Danger likely to return as Scott clarifies Cats rotation policy

Patrick Dangerfield is “likely” to play for Geelong against Fremantle next Saturday night, after sitting out his side’s win over North Melbourne on Sunday.

Cats coach Chris Scott said a series of knocks to his calf, compounded by a six-day break, made the decision to rest Dangerfield a prudent one.

“He’s just been a bit unlucky,” Scott said. “The first month of footy, he got a really bad corkie in his quad that he was labouring with.

“He was OK to play, battled through that a little bit, then he got a series of corks to the same spot in his calf, and it was OK coming off a 10-day break last week.

“He was probably in a similar spot on day five this week, but off a six-day break it just wasn’t the right thing for him to play.

“I don’t know for sure but the indications are he’s likely to play next week.”

Scott moved to explain his side’s rotation policy, which saw Ollie Dempsey make his debut, and Luke Dahlhaus as the substitute on Sunday.

“We just have the view, when we look at our squad, we think we have a deep squad, and we have a number of players we intend to use across the course of the year,” he said.
