Labor’s majority in Leichhardt-Gulgadya may also be reviewed following a request for a recount after former Liberal councillor Vittoria Raciti, who ran as an independent in the December 4 polls, failed to win a spot.
Cr Byrne declined to comment on the requests on Tuesday. However, a NSW Electoral Commission spokeswoman confirmed the requests for both wards were being considered by the Commissioner, John Schmidt.
Re-elected Labor councillor Donna Davis is nominating to be Parramatta lord mayor.
A recalculation of results could highly influence the council’s treatment of the successful vote to de-merge the amalgamated council into its three predecessors, Marrickville, Ashfield and Leichhardt.
Despite all camps committing to endorse the result, the tenacity with which the council advocates for the de-merger will likely vary, given the former Labor bloc voted against staging a poll.
With Labor and the Greens still tussling for control of the Inner West, the dynamic in Parramatta was much different, with a coalition between the two parties set to command a majority after the Liberal Party refused to endorse candidates in Sydney’s second city this year.

Second-term councillor Donna Davis, whose strong result in Epping pulled her number-two Cameron Maclean through with her, will be nominating for mayor, with re-elected Greens councillor Phil Bradley publicly backing her tilt.
“They’ll be getting my vote at least most of the time, and certainly in the general governance of the council,” Cr Bradley said.
“Councillor Davis has been quite outstanding in her first term. She’s shown good leadership and she’s a smart, caring woman, and it’s about time we had a woman as mayor.”
Eight of the 15 newly elected councillors in the municipality are women, the largest number in the 160-year history of the council.
