Also, on the Powerhouse wish list is the Carla Zampatti Ford Laser, first released in 1985 with a second collection in 1987, featuring two-tone paint, a coloured grille and logo badging, and a bonus keyholder and purse.

“We know that they’re out there. The family certainly don’t have any tucked away in Carla’s garage.”
The stories behind donated pieces will be featured as part of the exhibition, as well as memories from Zampatti’s legion of admirers.
Unlike the Chanel exhibition currently at the NGV in Melbourne, which attempts to keep the unfashionable aspects of Coco Chanel’s life separate from the work, the Carla Zampatti show will embrace the personal success story of the proud Italian immigrant.
“The thing about her is that she was so multi-faceted and her clothes and her story is embedded into our everyday lives,” says Powerhouse chief executive Lisa Havilah. “We are so lucky that her family have continued her vision of working with us to share this exhibition with the public.”
Zampatti’s daughter, leading designer Bianca Spender, says that music and collaborations will enhance the exhibition experience but visitors to the Powerhouse will be able to see her mother closely in the stitches and silhouettes of her work.

“There were so many worlds to her, but her design world is really where you have a personal sense of her,” Ms Spender says. ” It’s so exciting to bring that world alive and share it.”
With the Carla Zampatti brand not taking part in Australian Fashion Week in May, the exhibition will be the focus of the company’s activities this year.
“There will be more to come at the end of the year, but it’s time to look back at Carla,” Ms Hush says.
